Frequently asked questions

What does midi2mio do?

midi2mio converts a standard MIDI file into a WarioWare D.I.Y. music record, a .mio file that the WarioWare D.I.Y. editor can import. The record keeps the tempo, up to four melodic voices, a drum track and the dynamics of the original song.

What are the limits of a D.I.Y. music record?

A record has four melodic voices of 25 notes each (two octaves plus one note), one four-hit drum track, a tempo between 60 and 220 BPM and at most 24 blocks of two bars (48 bars). Longer songs are cut to the busiest 48 bars.

How are MIDI instruments and drums mapped?

Each General MIDI program is matched to the closest of the 48 D.I.Y. instruments, and notes are folded into that instrument's own octave range so basses stay low. GM percussion is matched to the best of the eight D.I.Y. drum sets.

Can I preview the result?

Yes. The result page plays the .mio in your browser with the same sound engine and instrument samples that DoujinSoft uses, so what you hear is what the game plays.

How do I get the .mio into the game?

Open the .mio with the WarioWare D.I.Y. Editor and import it into your game data.
